Why should I attend a homebuilding show in person?

It’s an amazing chance to meet lots of different suppliers under one roof. Whether you’re looking for a sliding door supplier, heating specialist or cladding contractor, you’ll find lots of inspiration and expert advice all in one place.

Researching online is all well and good, and it certainly has its place, but the opportunity to get up close and personal with the products you want to purchase is invaluable. In terms of sliding doors, our customers often tell us it was the moment they got see, touch and feel the quality of Minima’s Ultraline doors that helped them make up their mind.

Attending a homebuilding show also allows you to meet the people behind the products and services you’ll be using for your build. All the exhibitors at the shows have made a significant financial investment to attend, so you know they’re financially viable and committed to offering the best possible products and services.

With Minima Sliding, the people you meet on our stand will be the people you’ll deal with throughout your purchase and installation process. We don’t field a separate sales team for shows. What you see is what you get! And you’ll soon discover that we’re a friendly bunch with lots of expertise to share.

What aspects should I be thinking about when comparing different sliding door suppliers?

Like we said, a homebuilding exhibition gives you the chance to see in person lots of different kinds of glazed doors. At most of the shows, you’ll find a range of competing sliding door suppliers in one room, so you really will be able to compare like with like.

Here are the main factors we think you should consider when weighing up the different sliding door products on offer…

Frame size – The narrower the frame, the better the view. Our frames have a consistently narrow 20mm profile all the way around.

Thermal performance – What’s the U-value of your chosen door? Our doors offer a market-leading U-value of 1.2 which is significantly more energy efficient than the building regs minimum of 1.6.

Handle – Do you want a visible handle or something more streamlined? The handle on the Ultraline sliding door is incorporated into the frame, allowing for a sleek, contemporary look.

Customer service – How flexible is your sliding door supplier willing to be? We offer extra-large panel sizes (up to 4.2 metres wide) and can accommodate challenging architectural features such as floating corners. Plus our customer service is second to none. Come and see us and find out for yourself!

What do I need to think about before coming along to a renovation show?

Bring your architectural drawings with you if you’re at that stage, and we’ll be able to give you a rough idea of price there and then. It’s also worth thinking about how you’re likely to use the doors so we can help price up the right configuration of fixed panels and sliding doors for you. We can give you an approximate price on the day which we will then follow up a few days later with a formal quote.

You might also like to think about any talks you want to attend at the show so you can plan your day accordingly. Most of the shows have free seminars and workshops covering topics such as gaining planning permission or sourcing a building plot. There’s also the chance to listen to real-life renovators as they share their experiences of building their dream home.

We like to get in on the act, too, so don’t miss our masterclass on ’10 guidelines for specifying sliding doors’. It covers all you need to know when planning the perfect glazing system for your project.
